Reigning world snooker champion Mark Williams is in Bangkok to defend his title at the 6 Red World Championships this week.

Welshman Williams heads of a host of world class players and Thai locals in the tournament that uses just six red balls instead of the customary 15.

Williams, an MBE, is the champion at both disciplines despite being forty three years of age.

Also in the field is Chinese ace Ding Junhui, three time world champion Mark Selby from Leicester, Marco Fu from Hong Kong, and the UK's Kyren Wilson and Stephen Maguire.

The 2015 six red champion Thepchaiya Un-Nooh will be hoping to make sure that the foreign invaders do not have matters all their own way as will veteran James Wattana or Tong as he is better known in Thailand.

The event is being held at the Bangkok Convention Center at the Central Plaza Lat Prao shopping center in northern Bangkok from today, Monday, until Saturday 8th September.

After a best of five round robin group stage the top two from each group will go into the knockout phase.

Thepchaiya is in action at 1.30pm today and another match at that time features Ricky Walden from the UK.

At 4pm two matches feature Maguire and Fu.
