A new fleet of song thaews in Lopburi are being hailed as the Rolls Royce of baht buses!

MCOT called the 14 vehicle fleet fitted with fast wi-fi, air conditioning and CCTV as "Hi-So Song Thaews".

Driver of bus number 19/8 Chatchawan Phrom-orn, 62, said he was so happy with his new vehicle and the kids and old folks on his route love the new service.

They said it is clean, cool and safer - the CCTV guards against hotheads or people touching children inappropriately.

The buses are the idea of Sorachat Khondech who wanted to create something new in a saturated market.

He said that the wi-fi is 4GB and that the fare is only 10 baht no matter how far you travel.

Each vehicle is fitted with GPS and drivers are limited to go no faster than 40 km/h.

There is a 1,000 baht prize available to the driver who gets the most praise for the service - and 100 baht fines for those who leave the Lopburi bus terminal with a dirty vehicle.

Drivers who contravene regulations like leaving passengers stranded or not locking the back door face immediate suspension, said Sorachat.

As if a hi so would ride in one of these! There's more face to be had in their expensive cars. Then again, if it makes ordinary people feel like hi so...…….dream on.

Wow, time for immigration to bring a visit to Mr Sorachat because he does not seem to be Thai. ?
