More than 10,000 drug suspects nabbed

Police have cracked down on 5,145 drug cases and arrested more than 10,000 suspects for drug use and trafficking thus far this year. According to a National Police report, there were 5,145 drug crimes involving 10,199 suspects across the country from January to August. Of the suspects, 213 were foreigners.

 

The report, issued yesterday, said that there were 3,304 cases related to drug trafficking, storing, possessing, and growing which involved 5,956 suspects. There were also 1,841 cases of drug use with 4,234 people arrested.

 

The report said that police seized 487.35 kilos of hard drugs, as well as 38.73 kilos of marijuana and 132,175 marijuana plants. It added that police confiscated a number of vehicles and properties, including 59 cars, 1,258 motorcycles, 3,322 mobile phones, 135 scales, 17 handguns and 12 assault rifles.
