Soldier fights for life after being attacked by seniors

A conscript remains in a critical condition 20 days after being beaten up inside a military camp by his senior colleagues.

Doctors at the Ananda Mahidol Hospital in Lop Buri province said on Monday that Private Khacha Chapa, 22, still had a lung infection, a swollen brain and a blood infection that had worsened.

Khacha suffered the potentially fatal beating on August 21 at the 31st Infantry Regiment (King’s Guard), where he worked.

Three soldiers at the camp have confessed to beating him up and apologised to his family.

Police have charged all three with attempted murder and they are being detained at a military prison.

Khacha’s young daughter and 72-year-old mother Rungruedee Sihawong have been camping out in front of the hospital’s critical care unit to pray for his recovery.

“We are praying for a miracle,” Rungruedee said.

Asked about financial help from the Royal Thai Army, Rungruedee said she was told he would get about Bt30,000 compensation as basic help.

“But to date, we have not yet received the compensation,” she said.

I have a feeling the injuries were awful enough a cover-up wasn't possible in this case. But there is still the possibility this was ordered and carried out with the knowledge of officers who will not come forward.

Was there any explanation in any of the prior news reports on WHY the attackers felt the need to beat on this kid?  They did it on their own, or they were ordered to?

He didn't run up the hill fast enough?  Didn't make his bed smartly enough to bounce a coin off it?  What grave military offense did he commit to warrant nearly getting killed by his fellow soldiers?

There's still the matter of 500 baht each pending.

Are there no official military police connected to the Thai armed forces? And if not why not? MPs normally being significantly tougher than regular police. Court martial and an extended stay in the brig would seem an appropriate punishment for the perpetrators.

The buck stops with the self appointed man at the top who controls the military.

He maintains his silence while his subordinates beat the crap out of some poor innocent soldier.

It is only going to get worse. Thailand is morally down the drain.

Again...sadly. When will the Thai army realize that the torture of conscripts by in-house fascists unacceptable? Time to clean your own house before lecturing everyone on how it should be...pfft.

Well yes. Here we are again and still waiting for the malfeasance charges for allowing this to happen (YET AGAIN) on his watch to be filed against the appropriate minister...

Good Thai Buddhist soldiers......

What a cheap liar. If I knew I wasn't going to pay her anything, I would have promised her 1.000,000 baht.

Will those who attacked and beat the soldier receive more "fake" medals to wear with the others that everybody is issued.  One day, while returning to Buripar University, the bus stopped to at the Thai Naval base and two young males in naval uniform got on.  Both wore identical medal ribbons except they were worn differently - upside down to each other.  I was in the Royal Navy and never was provided with any such ornaments.  They, as most people on ThaiVisa are aware, had to be earned, and I do not refer to being given because we scored high at the rifle range, etc.

'nuf sed

Dogs, no, that would be unfair to dogs.   Put the  hazing pieces of garbage in the worst Thai prison and leave them there with no money for as long as they are alive.  the poor young kid, who was conscripted, probably had no idea how to cope with things, was afraid and alone from day 1.

So many of these stories over the years and nothing has changed.  Poor kids conscripted against their will and beaten to death

Watch this space, erm, chronograph this space...... erm, use a Richard Mille chronograph or maybe a Patek Philippe chronograph, or maybe a Rolex Daytona..I wonder who in the military would have the equipment for that.....?

This behavior by other soldiers is totally unacceptable and they need to be punished for attempted murder in a court system. Military justice needs to be done and they are made to pay as an example for others. Come on government officials do your job!

That's a major relief for the family indeed.

"Possibility", for heavens sake man, get a life.

Typical Thai male stuff. Several against one. So brave!

This is what awaits conscrips here?

Conscription should end!

But they induct them so seniors as in higher ranks have a so called job.

Its a military state. Has been for generations. How much more is covered up? I've seen the videos of others having to stand there and take a beating.. Cowards.

I feel like another just normal day, and nothing happened in Thailand.

Judging by most Thai men, pack mentality, too much testosterone and inflated egos, are the main cause. Lack of Moral compass and supervision is also a cause. Kings Guard, a wai and all is forgiven...….Good Buddhists they are not , n ot one of them including their superiors and officers. Hypocritical children. !!
