webfact Posted September 10, 2018 Share Posted September 10, 2018 From every province in Thailand, outstanding people are recognised By The Nation A Chiang Mai monk who set up charities to aid the mentally-ill, alcoholics, people living with HIV/Aids and the underprivileged, country singer Akkharadet “Kong Huayrai” Yodjumpa who organised and ran a marathon to raise funds for a Sakhon Nakhon hospital, and traditional-medicine doctor Saengchai “Mor Saeng” Haelerttrakul, known for distributing his herbal tonic for free to cancer victims in Prachin Buri, were among many outstanding people honoured on Monday at the prestigious Thaen Khun Phaendin 2018 awards. Secretary-general of the Chaipattana Foundation, Sumet Tantivejkul, presented the awards, which recognise people for their good deeds, public service and charitable contributions – during a ceremony at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok. As well as 77 recipients representing each province of Thailand, 10 others also received the new-generation Thaen Khun Phaendin awards and the “Khon Thai Jai Asa” awards, the latter of which was being handed out for the first time. Fifteen of the recipients were from the North, 20 from the Northeast, 28 from the Central and East, and 24 from the South.
