BANGKOK, 11th September 2018 (NNT) – The Temporary Crisis Center is to adjust its water management plan for the east after an assessment that rainfall may pick up in October.

Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of National Water Resources and Director of the Temporary Crisis Center Samroeng Saengphuwong, has engaged in a meeting on the weather situation with the Meteorological Department, the Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute and the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency.

The meeting discussed water management plans for Prachinburi, Nakhon Nayok and Bang Pakong rivers, deciding on three approaches. The first is to drain water from areas expected to be hit by rains according to the One Map and storing water in the upper north and upper northeast; the second is to increase monitoring of the Chao Phraya, Nakhon Nayok and Prachinburi rivers across Trat, Chantaburi and Petchaburi provinces, and the third is to lower the water levels of the Nakhon Nayok and Prachinburi rivers while directing the water into eastern irrigation canals and the Chao Phraya River.

A plan for managing Kaeng Krachan Dam waters was also discussed as both the Meteorological Department and Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute foresee heavy rain swelling the reservoir in October. The dam is to be drained of some of its current holding in preparation for renewed inflow.

'Oy Somchai what do you think should we let the water rise a foot or two more at the peasants fields?'

'Sure just as long as it won't affect Bangkok'

So without discussions, they would have never decided these three genius plans: drain, monitor, and divert?
