PHNOM PENH, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Floods have killed 44 people in Cambodia, including 26 children, so far, Keo Vy, a spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), said Tuesday.

Floods have hit 22 out of the kingdom's 25 provinces, he said.

"The floods have affected approximately 120,000 families and forced more than 10,000 families to evacuate to higher grounds," he told Xinhua.

According to the spokesman, floodwater is receding these days, and the situation will improve in coming weeks if there is no more heavy rain or impact from storms.

Floods usually strike the Southeast Asian country between late July and October. In 2011, the country suffered the worst from flooding, with up to 250 people killed, according to the NCDM.
