Ciggies in Hat Yai

What’s the deal with those little smugglers’ shops in Hat Yai selling booze and ciggies? They have cartons of Marlboros for 260 baht...are they real or fake? Where do they come from?

I remember a couple of years back a bust in Hat Yai.... back room operation filling JW Black Label bottles with local crappy whiskey..... if it’s cheap, it’s fake

Might be the same "suppliers" as the folks at the Friendship Bridge duty free/vendor mall in Laos/Vientiane.   Careful, I tried them twice (separate border crossings), something definitely different.  Coughed and hacked nonstop...

When I crossed over the border into Tachileik about 5 years ago I saw cartons (10 packs) of “Marlboros” for sale for ฿80.  Can’t even imagine what goes in to them.
