Video: "Can't be bothered" taxi driver fined 3,000 baht and given politeness training

5PM_Vid.jpg

A Bangkok cabby who refused to take some women on a journey and was caught arguing on a phone video has been fined and ordered to undergo politeness training.

The video caused much comment online. The cabby - Narongwit Pongsaphang -  had picked up the passengers and done a U-Turn then after turning on the meter said he couldn't be bothered to take them after all.

An argument in which the female passengers claimed he was verbally abusive followed outside a 7/11

They said they were going to report him and he said "Go ahead".

Narongwit was called in by the DLT and fined 3,000 baht - one thousand each for leaving a passenger stranded, being improperly dressed and being impolite.

He was also ordered to undergo three hours of what has become known as politeness training.

His taxi rental company was also fined 1,000 baht for incomplete registration.

The video of the incident that occurred on Monday had been posted on Facebook by "M'mild Maiyara".

Politeness training,? That has to be a joke, surely.

Politeness is learned at an early age, not after 3 hours of somebody yakking in your ear.:cheesy:

And why should he be bothered or even care when the penalties are laughable and affordable even to the lowly cabbie? and you can't do much to them either, blacklist them and they will change names and get fake driving licences, luckily there aren't many of those useless humans driving taxis...

A perfect example of the Taxi Scum - fortunately its smaller percentage of these despicable characters driving than there are good drivers. Unfortunately, it means that whenever you take a taxi there is a chance you will be exposed to one of these scummy characters and part of your day is made less enjoyable.

The fines are a joke - 3000 baht fine is not enough to change the level of entitlement these have when they feel the Bangkok Public owes them a living.

Fortunately social media is making a small dent in the problem, moreso than any enforcement by the DLT who only operated in a reactionary manner on the mot public of cases such as this.

It almost means that when flagging down a taxi you need to have your phone turned on at the ready to record.  The good taxi drivers will see this and not care. The bad taxi drivers will see this and perhaps not want to stop for you anyway for fear of being recorded.

They give his name, but block his face out on the video. Why?

How about some classic military "attitude adjustment"...seems like he is a good candidate for it.

First glance at the headline, I thought it said 'pointless training'.  Maybe it should have.

if its watching a video, he will be playing on his phone or asleep, like most Thais are when they play the vid at the test centre ha ha

In principle the women are right.

But in a way I understand him that he doesn't want to drive with a bunch of screaming women in his car armed with mobile phone cameras...

Politeness training? I feel compelled to ask who is responsible for providing it?

Alternatively maybe a bit of shock training to straighten him out  ..

Come on. You've been here for a long time. You don't expect logic, do you? Another example of it being impossible to understand the Thai mind. And they call us aliens!

Only thing there will work is confiscate their taxi license

Only works if you have a brain attached to the brain stem....not likely

I dont know about you but his name is well beyond my abilities

Back out on the road the next day to what he feels like doing!!

Hardly any punishment to him or deterrent to any other lazy driver!

As Moe always said...”Why I outta!”

Really .. just a reminder..Taxi Drivers are luck of the draw
