Sixty killed by dengue virus nationwide this year: Public Health Ministry

Sixty people have died from dengue fever nationwide this year, Public Health Ministry deputy permanent secretary Opas Kankawinpong said on Tuesday.

 

Some 58,000 people in total have fallen ill because of the dengue virus since the beginning of the year, with 60 of them having died as a result.

 

Opas said the infection rate was 0.14 per 100,000 of the population, which was higher than what is deemed to be the acceptable ratio of 0.11 to 0.12 per 100,000.

 

Half of the dengue patients this year were adults, compared to just 10 per cent in previous years, he added.

Five killed by dengue fever in four Bangkok districts so far this year

Five adults have succumbed to the dengue virus in four Bangkok districts this year, a senior official of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said on Tuesday.

 

Dr Methipoj Chatamethikul, director of the Disease Control Division of the BMA’s Health Department, said 5,899 had been hit by dengue fever this year, and five of them had died.

 

All five were adults, with two of them residents of Din Daeng district, and one each from Nong Chok, Pathum Wan and Bang Kapi.

 

Methipoj said last year saw 9,368 people having contracted the disease in Bangkok, six of whom had died.

 

BMA Governor Aswin Kwanmuang said on Tuesday that he had instructed all 50 districts in the capital to send officials to carry out anti-mosquito spraying in all communities in order to try to control the outbreak of dengue fever.

Been a wet year, plenty of standing water for the mosquitoes to breed in.

A minor problem compared to the carnage on the roads. Maybe they should refocus their priorities.

Besides that, the mosquitoes that carry dengue virus are not limited or restricted to particular climes, unlike it's malarial cousin. 

 

Dengue is almost as nasty as malaria, if not more. 

 

The natural ability to become strain resistant and become much more dangerous should be a real concern.

I get the feeling that road carnage is part of the plan...…….25,000 less possible dissenters each year! Rabid dogs and dengue mosquitos don't dissent!

Iv'e seen more mosquitoes this year than any other year I've been here. Constantly having to kill them in the house and outside. Normally I would see the guy smoking the drains out, buy in my area but we've had none of that this year.

I had a dose of dengui when I was living there, it was horrid and the doc said mine was mild, you can get it three times, then you're either dead or totally resistant. I would prefer the latter.

I was blessed with dengue for the first time in 34 visits over 6 years. 

I’ve never been bitten by so many mosquitos in all my life as I have in the past couple of monthd 

Eat Garlic, NOT WEAR DARK CLOTHES, Any pools of water around house throw cup full of bleach in and Drains outside,,,,Throw moth balls around house where no get wet, will also deter snakes. Use diffuser with Essential Oils inside House,,...

What can expect considering the disasterous conditions of the drainage systems are all over Thailand ?

 

During the rainy season, when a rainfall gets a bit hard many areas are flooded with water above one's ankles.

 

Such flagrant laxism from the authorities is alarming and plainly contributes to enhance the disease plague all over the country.

The only bonus I have experienced was when I discovered by way of blood test that I had antibodies for Ross river fever and glandular fever, never even knew I had been affected by them, the dengui gave me a degree or immunity to the others due to a similar base protien.
