The State Railway of Thailand has announced that it will seek Bt300 million to develop a digital ticketing system to provide greater convenience to passengers.

The SRT announced on its website that it will seek the budget starting from the 2019 fiscal year to develop the D-ticket system.

The system will allow passengers to buy e-tickets through all channels, including website, a mobile app and at railway stations.

Conductors aboard trains will also be equipped with handheld computers to sell tickets in case passengers board before they can buy tickets, the SRT announced.

Passengers can pay by cash or by money transfer from bank accounts, depending on the way they choose to buy the e-tickets via the D-ticket system.

They would rather go and try to leave on time. Trains starting their journey in Nong Khai bound for Korat or Bangkok manage to leave the head station (the starting point) one hour late.
All that digital stuff can come once the operation is reliable. There is some writing on the wall, if the ticket from Nong Khai to Udon Thani costs Baht 11; there is no faster way of shuttling, no red lights and stopping in the middle of town - and still the train is almost empty!
Good for me and maybe not that good for SRT
