A Thai man visiting some waterfalls in Phuket went on Facebook to recount a story that he put down to encountering a genie. He said the hair stood up on the back of his neck.

The poster - writing under the name Bang Rorhim Look Chin Ping" said that he was going home from the Bang Pae falls in Thalang as dusk rapidly approached.

From a distance he had seen two "attractive" foreign women with two children.

They were leaving too. But as he followed them he saw one of the children cowering under some rocks in the gloom by the falls.

It appeared she had been left behind.

The child told him in English that her mother had gone up higher at the falls and she was waiting for her to come back.

But the poster had seen the mother descend the other way - going home - and was concerned for the child as it would soon be too dark to see the path. So he decided to have the child go with him to catch up with the others.

After ten minutes they caught up but the mother claimed that the child had been with them all along, holding the hand of the other child that was with their party.

Some things seemed to have been lost in translation.

But the poster was sure nobody would leave their child alone in the approaching dark at the falls.

He was sure that the case was one of a "jinn" from Islamic culture commonly referred to as genies. That was the only way he could explain it.

Some cultures call such stories as being "away with the fairies".

Ah,yes Jinns, remember reading marvelous book about English explorer and his Italian wife crossing the Sahara desert, west to East,on camels, hiring local guides,at some incredibly remote spot, they had not seen another person for days,he scrambled down a creek bank to see if there was water,he saw an old man alseep under a tree, well aware of Arabic folklore he hastily retreated without disturbing the man. Upon telling there guide, the guide become terrified and insisted they did not camp there even though it was late afternoon,so they rode on for a few more miles. The English chap himself admitted in the book he too was highly unsettled by it.
