Renewal of Retirement Visa entry into Thailand after expiry

Featured Replies

Hello

My retirement visa ends 10th January 2019.

I have to go out of Thailand on a business trip and be away on that date but will arrive a week later.

I believe a retirement visa can be re-newed 15 days either side of the end date, is that true?

Will Thai immigration in Bangkok allow me to enter on my expired retirement visa if it is within the 15 day period.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

There is no 15 days after allowance. After the date your extension ends you are on an overstay.

You can apply for the extension up to 30 days early and 45 days at some offices.

And don't forget to apply for a re-entry permit otherwise your extension is void when leaving the country.

No. They will usually still process an application for a short time after the current stay expires, but that won’t apply in your situation as you will be out of the country when it expires.

No. If you re-enter after January 10th the current extension of stay will be lost and you will only be granted a 30 day ‘tourist’ stay. If that happens you’ll need to start the retirement visa/extension process from scratch.

You need to renew your extension before you leave the country.

A re-entry permit isn’t going to help in this case as they will be returning after it expires.

Correct but only after the fine of 500 baht for everyday of overstay is paid.

Of course after he got his extension BEFORE leaving.

Just a reminder about the obvious (as the poster hasn't lost a word about it).

Did mine last year 45 days prior to expiring at Jomtien immigration. No problem after I explained to them I was going to be out of the country when it expired. had to show airline tickets that I was leaving on the date i said I was. . Didn't loose any days on the new visa as it was valid for a year from when the old visa expired.
