Britain will leave EU 'not just in name', Brexit minister says

The objective of the current speech and May's contribution later this week is to see off Johnson and Rees-Mogg past the Tory Party conference and then hopefully cobble together a deal with the EU without bringing down the Government and letting in Corbyn. The uncertainty sits inside the potentiality of a deal which can dodge the Northern Ireland obstacle course. Sterling's current droop indicates that the markets are starting to anticipate a no to that one, but that just means more of a 45/55 balance rather than a definitive give up. Still, the trend is to the negative.

Most of them wanted to be run by the Germans i am starting to believe, memories are very short

Most of smarter Europeans want a functional governance, which works for our benefit.

Whether there is a chicken or tortoise on the top doesn't really matter as long as they have skills and mindset to do the right thing.

Most just want to live their own lives, without really being involved with politics.

UK politicians have shown their true colours. Nasty and selfish people. If you had been able to live in a society, where the leaders are not like that, you'd understand better what we want.

Next year will be interesting to see what no-deal brexit really does for UK.

There will not be a transition period, which means that UK starts from zero doing trade and all other international deals around the Globe.

No deal is the best deal any deal the EU would agree to would be no good that has been obvious from the start for me.

UK should start now for global trade not wait for zero.

Chickens and tortoises. Yes. The EU seems to be run by foul animals that are too worried about their own necks!

Unfrozen pension would be nice from a selfish point.

Anything else would be pretty stupid. You can't run a successful membership-only club by handing out freebies to every Tom, Dick and Harry. If you want to be a member, pay the membership fee and comply with the rules. If you can't afford that, look for another club that suits you better. But stop coming back like a desperate dog begging for alms.

Your ''members only club" is a poor analogy.

A better one would be that it's like an exclusive golf-club, where only 10 of the 29 member actually pay (just 5 of whom contribute almost 90%), most get a small handout for turning-up, and there are a few one-armed golfers, (including one who only has one leg), who are paid a fortune to play just so the club can claim that it is "inclusive".

Even if that was the case you can only use the facilities if you’re a member. So please stop bothering the club by asking to use it for free.

It's about time May grew a pair and told Brussels where to stick their EU Membership!  The EU still wants billions from the UK, so they can support the weaker members.  Well, the ungrateful bastards have a short memory; The UK has already paid, in blood and guts!

The BANK IS CLOSED!

There is one small reason why the Government would certainly like to make an agreement, however limited, with the EU, and that is the Nissan Factor. Some readers will remember that Nissan were threatening to shift production of vehicles away from the UK. Promises were made and a number of companies are on the me-too wagon. If there is no agreement, all commitments are off and there will be a run for the exits. It hasn't happened and the Hard Brexiteers are still (relatively) muzzled apart from making noises off-stage (see above contributions). But the markets are detecting a weakness now as to whether May can deliver. Still, powder remains (somewhat) dry for the moment.

The dreams are free but there are bills other than the Hard Brexiteer refusal of the EU exit payment. The 'Nissan Factor' for starters. Whatever happened to that 350 million a week saving claim? Out of the window. Notice now it has mutated into 'A Price Worth Paying'. Bottom line is that the Hard Brexiteer project doesn't care about the economics impact of withdrawal from the EU. Its on a nationalist roll. Always has been really, just that its otherwise pretences are dropping by the wayside.

the "£350 million a week savings LIE" should be justification enough for a new referendum.

the EU villains are spouting fire and fury on tuesday at mays latest hard response ..they expect her to just roll over to their demands

Fire, fury, demands? I do wonder where you get your information....... In reality the ‘EU villains’ are most probably shaking their heads in disbelief of the mess the UK got itself in.

I for one don't want to give up that heritage for a bunch of mostly un elected clowns who now seem to think we owe them!!!

Hope you trust your chickens more than I do, because once we are out, many will follow

Nobody in the EU thinks you owe them - don’t you understand that nobody across the North Sea is trying to stop you?

Oh yes, ‘many will follow’, please keep believing that. Do you really think the UK is setting the example, with the total shambles it is in - and will be in the coming years?

I only give my informed (unlike yours with your ‘1%’) opinion, my Crystal ball is as clear - or as foggy - as yours, but apparently we see different things in it.
