smedly
so now we have gangs of youths running around Central Bangkok with Assault Rifles, absolutely wonderful, hope they are now going to provide free body armour to all tourists entering Thailand. Daveyh
Tragic ...... wake up Thailand there is too much violence & knives/guns on the streets here! Too many tourists are being killed & injured whilst on holiday, even one death is too many & the authorities need to act to stop this happening! I really do think that tourism is going to continue to pay a heavy toll in lost tourist revenue long term. Foreign tourists will stop coming, even the Chinese will eventually get the message. The mindset here will be to carry on & hope the problem goes away, but it won't & it never has! ....... the penalties for such crimes must be severe with lengthy prison terms, even capital punishment where it fits the crime. These thugs need taking off the streets & putting behind bars for life ....... the penalty should fit the crime. Forget "Wai's" & the fines that exist here for the loss of loved ones .......... it's life imprisonment & hard labour that should prevail ....... fact. webfact
Two foreign tourists killed after gang shoot out at Bangkok mall Picture: Thai Rath Two foreign tourists have died after they were caught up in shooting between rival gangs in a downtown Bangkok car park last night. Two other Thai men are in hospital with gunshot wounds. There are reports that long range Aga war weapons were used in the shooting. Indian tourist Gakhrer Dheeraj, 42 was pronounced dead at the Police Hospital last night. Sharma Dhamendra, 45, also from India is in a critical condition at Ratchawithi Hospital. Laotian tourist Keovongsa Thonekeo, 28, died later in hospital. Two Thais - Thaksin Sukiat, 22, and Pornthep Phumpuang, 23 are in Chulalongkorn Hospital with gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred in a car park behind the Centara Watergate Pavilion shopping center in Ratchaprarop district. Witness Julie Sawang-arun, 62, told Thai Rath that she is a guide. The parking area is for tour buses and the tourists from India went there to go to an Indian restaurant and do some shopping. While some were waiting to get back on the bus a gang of 20 youths from a nearby snooker hall emerged into the area and were confronted by three men with what she described as war weapons. The three men indiscriminately shot at the gang of 20 and the tourists were caught in the crossfire. Phayathai police are investigating the incident. Police teams in the area found a restaurant and drinks stall riddled with bullets and shell casings in the area. kylep
The authorities will surely condemn and arrest anyone who claims these Thai criminal gangs deserve the blame. Why? Simple logic. If the foreigners were not there, they wouldn't have died in the first place.

That makes no sense at all. If they don't know the type of rifles how do they know that the spent shells (empty cases) were from an AK47. The AK47 uses 7.62mm ammunition but so do many other rifles/assault rifles. In this country it would be either an AK type or an SKS type. I doubt there are many Ruger Mini 30s here. The AK type will leave different marks on the case as it is a rotating bolt vis a vis the tipping bolt of the SKS. A judgement could have been made by the case, or the scarcity or lack thereof of the SKS here as opposed to AKs, or just bad reporting.

poohy
With all the bedlam caused because of a dodgy Chinese getting slapped by an even dodgier security guard i would have expected more from the gov, but of course its Indians not Chinese or Westerners. Nyezhov
My personal philosophy is to have situational awareness. Fat, sweaty and stupid as I am, I have been licensed to carry a concealed weapon for 40 years in the US. I have military training, LE weapons training, and intensive civilian weapons training, including tactical pistol, rifle, shotgun and subgun. Its hard tell anyone what to do in the case of a mass shooting scenario, especially here, where good folks are unarmed and the level of police firearms training is suspect. All I can say is be aware of your surroundings, condition yellow I call it. If you hear gunshots (assuming you can recognize the sound) you need to take cover immediately. That doesnt mean run and hide, but hit that ground and gut crawl behind or under something. Better dirty and being laughed at than a victim. My prayers for the victims and hope the Thai authorities catch these little punks and after a proper trial, give them a bullet.
