You can't be a "Cranky old bugger" otherwise you would remember him.

Possibly you are a Cranky young bugger or a Cranky very old bugger...

Yes mate i am a cranky old bugger, but sorry i have never heard of him before.

I'm the same regarding that Colin. I had to Google him to discover:

Giovanni Giorgio Moroder (born 26 April 1940) is an Italian singer, songwriter, DJ and record producer. A four-time Grammy Award winner, Moroder is frequently credited with pioneering Italo disco and electronic dance music, and is dubbed the "Father of Disco".

So now we both know a little more.

In fairness, I hadn't until Daft Punk did a song about him. After that I kind of wondered how I'd never heard of him before. His contribution to electronic music is monumental. Artists like Justin Bieber, One Direction, Nicki Manaj etc wouldn't exist today without him.... oh good god, no! why! WHY! ????

Actually it's not the singers that he discovered that is his main claim to fame. It's his songwriting that stands him up there with the best. Songs like:

You take my breath away - Berlin (from Top Gun)

Call me - Blondie

Flashdance (what a feeling)

Love Kills - Freddy Mercury

Numerous Donna Summer songs & hits

& my favourite:

Together in electric dreams - Phil Oakley
