Lost Bank Card, need to transfer money to a Thai friends bank account online ??

Recommended Posts

Ok I lost my wallet today, in Pattaya. I am 27 from the UK, my bank is Santander, I only had a visa debit card. I called my bank and they have blocked my card. The lady on the Phone said I could transfer money to a friend here I think, then my friend can get the money out the atm. I have online banking app on my iPhone, I tried the transfer but it was asking for sort code and account number, the Thai bank doesn’t have a sort code, and the account number is longer. They have swift code...

I need help and advice, how can I transfer my money to a Thai friends Thai bank account online ? Or should I go to a Thai bank and ask for help there.

I doubt your banking app. on your phone will let you do an overseas transfer although I may be wrong, the field lengths etc are totally different to UK field lengths. Perhaps what was meant was that you can transfer the funds to a friend in the UK and that person could then make the overseas transfer for you, to a named account.

If you can't make an international transfer using your app you may need to transfer the money to a mate in the UK then he/she can send it to you using Western Union (instant).

You can collect Western Union payments at most Thai banks and lots of booths in shopping centres etc.

EDIT: I was typing while Frits was replying - must learn to be more succinct.

Ok a bit of hope, can’t do international transfer payments on the Santander smartphone app, but you can do it on the actual online banking website. I’ll try later.

only problem I’m worried about is not being able to make the payment transfer because my card is blocked.

right before i left, i bought extended service from the bank,

so that i can at any time of the day phone my bank and have them send me a new visa card to whichever place i want,

that should take a week or so.

i did help out an old man in the way you suggested, her sister sent money to my account and i gave him the money, and his wife absorbed the money so he came back asking for more help

I dont get the problem.. Can you transfer to a friends account in Thailand and he can take it out on his visa or mastercard here?.. If you dont have any of course you might need western union and you do not need to do it through a friend. Call Santander and they will transfer to nearest western union for you. At least most banks in scandinavia do that as a service...

Forget about your banking app. Just login to the web version of your online banking. There you can easy use any bangk account with SWIFT to transfer your money.

Please be aware that such transfer from Europe to Thailand usually needs 3 till 4 workingdays, very rarely only 2.

Regards

You can transfer online independend of your card. As I stated already it needs time. Maybe better to transfer to someone back home & let them send you by Western Union.

You are unlucky with the STIs and now a lost card. One more? Lesson for the future if this is a genuine OP, bring more cards, i have 5 just in case. You need to get full details of your friends account including account number and swift address

I haven't used my Santander account for SWIFT yet, but they may require extra authentication.

Go to the web version of your online account and make sure you have your UK mobile registered with them (hopefully you have it here and have roaming enabled) , they may well send you a One Time Password (OTP) to finalise the transaction.

You may even need a OTP to set up a new payee in the UK if you decide to do that route.

Best of luck !

Ok I lost my wallet today,

I am sorry to hear that. Your Pattaya trip has not gone very well so far. I hope you find a solution.

Can a friend send you money by Western Union? Offices everywhere and super fast and easy.

Everyone who travels alone should have a clear idea of what you are going to do when you lose your wallet and or your cellphone, maybe at the same time.

I live in Thailand and travel all over by myself. I try to stay in a hotel that has a safe in the room that is actually bolted down.

I put my back up wallet and back up cellphone in the safe with my passport. The wallet has 5000 baht in cash in 500's and 100's, my other Thai drivers license, one credit card and one ATM card.

And the wallet I do go out with is paired down to basics, health insurance card, drivers license, ATM card. For me, no credit card needed in Pattaya.

I believe Monday is a bank holiday. Good luck.

Are you flying back to the UK? Is the credit card you lost the same as the one your ticket was purchased on? Could be a problem.

Western union is not cheap but this sounds like a emergency. you could send yourself money from your own bank account. I think.

yes but now would not be the time to do that. the banks security people would flip out with a lost card and then a new phone number. Even if he could do it remotely. just roam for the OTP until he gets set up.

Its the perfect time to do it, call them and go through security and they will add the thai number for the OTP. They aren't stupid they will know what he is trying to do

ok. in the USA at my bank you can only change phone numbers in person, not on line. that is why my bank only phone is in a huge safe in my house.

Yes, that's the easiest way!

Ok update, honestly I quit my job, ran away from home in England and came to Thailand with the intention of ending my life, but I’m not depressed here, I’m having too much fun, I don’t have it in me to kill myself. I’ve got a nice tan, my IBS doesn’t bother me much, I’m banging girls, I feel pretty happy.

I decided to contact my mother, she has booked a flight for me back to England on Wednesday. I’ll pay her back. I’ll get help in England and hopefully sort my life out, or I’ll get depressed over there, no sex life, IBS issues, cold miserable weather, living with the parents...

Wallet is still missing, I’m sure the poor people on beach road have it, it’s gone forever.

viagra, didn’t buy any in Pattaya, decided to just use the Sidagra I had from Bangkok, it definitely is legit, worked wonders for me. Side effects are headache and feeling sleepy earlier than normal and feeling sluggish. 27 and need viagra kinda sucks though.

didnt have bareback sex in Pattaya, only unprotected blowjob.

Worried about my IBS is England as my diet is different there than here in Thailand. But at least I have access to better probiotics and fermented foods.

Going back to Bangkok today, a Thai girl will book and pay for a hotel and stay with me for my last 2 days, thai girls are very kind, help me out a lot. I’ll miss this place.
