BANGKOK, 17 October 2018 (NNT) – Chulalongkorn University has held a seminar on the possible legal requirement for pets to be registered at a cost of 450 baht per animal after the Livestock Department decided to stall the regulation due to public resistance.

The Veterinary Faculty of Chulalongkorn University has held a seminar titled “Registering Dogs and Cats… Wait or Go” bringing together noted individuals in relevant fields.

Editor-in-Chief of Naew Na newspaper, Chalermchai Yodmalai , remarked that a majority of the public agrees with the draft Anti-Animal Cruelty and Animal Welfare Act and its requirement for pets to be registered with district administrations, but are unsure about the cost of 450 baht per animal and its subsequent benefits.

Deputy Director-General of the Livestock Department, Somchuan Rattanamangalanont , indicated the draft act has been sent for reconsideration but noted it will still seek to limit the proliferation of animals. He explained that, if the discussed rule were to be implemented, it would categorize animal owners into three segments, breeding farms, the general public and animal shelters.

The first year of registration might see fees waived or discounts might be provided for neutered and spayed animals. Homes being used as animal shelters would have to register with their district office and would receive free assistance, including vaccinations and neutering. Pets that have already been implanted with tracking chips by the state would be exempt from the registration.

The deputy director-general added that the 450 baht for registration will be reconsidered to fit public needs better .

When academics lack publicity. Is that why the seminar "How to convince 8 mio. motorists to finally get a driving license" was cancelled?

Yeah; that will help, have another 'Seminar' with free eats and drinks, set up a 'Committee' with free food and drinks and a 'Panel' with free eats and drinks to oversee the first two.    Bla Bla Bla, Eat Eat Eat, drink some more of that confiscated Wine from the Airports that wasn't in plastic bags and then lets all go home and forget about the whole thing !

Trivial priorities.

Why not explore more redeeming and substantial issues.

Because they can't nor have the ability to pursue.
