Registering With The Amphur

Featured Replies

A friend of mine was recently approached by his Phuyai Baan with the request to complete a 'questionnaire' regarding his status in Thailand. The Phuyai Baan explained that this was a new requirement of the Surin Amphur to enable them to track the foreigners in the province. Although I have not yet been approached, I wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

I think it was last year (or maybe the year before) somebody came to check my status here in our village in Phitsanulok. He turned up with one of our local policemen; scared the life out of me. He did have a questionnaire but I didn't get to see it and he also looked at my passport. He said that all farang staying in the area needed to be registered.

It is part of Immigration Law that all foreign guests must be reported and homeowner or hotel is required to do so. Being Thailand this is not always done - in the case of homeowners seldom - so only recourse when officials want a list is to start asking.

I'm registered with Immigration and carry out my reporting every 90 days as required. My mate is also registered. This appears to be a different (although extensively the same) requirement of the Amphur.

There's another thread posted last year titled " Police Registering All Farang In Village!" that might be worth a read. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...=88953&st=0

Sorry, I must have missed that thread. Either that or my altzheimers is worse than I thought.

The homeowner/hotel report is not your 90 day address report. Anyone living in accommodations must be reported by the owner. When you stay in a hotel they make a list (at least normal hotels) from your check in passport information and send to police daily. Apartments and private homes are also required to submit such a report by law.
