CRS reporting 2018

Featured Replies

I know there are a few comments on various threads but they seem to get bogged down with personal comments.

CRS requires an answer to one of three questions;

Please complete the following table indicating (i) each jurisdiction of residence (including Hong Kong) where the Account Holder is a resident for tax purposes and (ii) the Account Holder’s TIN for each jurisdiction indicated. Indicate all (not restricted to three) jurisdictions of residence. If the Account Holder is tax resident in more than three jurisdictions please use a separate sheet. If the Account Holder is a tax resident of Hong Kong, the TIN is the Hong Kong Identity Card Number. If a TIN is unavailable please provide the appropriate reason A, B or C where indicated below: 1. 2.
3.

Reason A - The jurisdiction where the Account Holder is a resident for tax purposes does not issue TINs to its residents.

Reason B - The Account Holder is unable to obtain a TIN. (Please explain why you are unable to obtain a TIN in the below table if you have selected this reason)

Reason C - TIN is not required. Select this reason only if the authorities of the jurisdiction of residence do not require the TIN to be disclosed.

Has any one any recent definitive experience of a straight forward answer.

My first impressions were to go for B ,   As the Thai tax authorities seem to see no reason to give a TIN as I amnot earning any income in Thailand , seems totally logical

But,, As Thailand (as of now ) are not in CRS there is no need to provide a TIN as no information is reported.

As I said I know this may have been done over a bit on various threads , just trying to get a consensus of what people are choosing to put

An easier answer is to go to the Thai tax dept and spend fifteen minutes getting a Thai TIN, it's easy peasy.

Personally if I was in this position I would use B and explain as he has. If they accept that then no issues which is what I did with one of my banks.............

However this is only because it took me a lot longer than 15 minutes and, with hindsight, I have concerns down the road ????
