SISAKET, 26 October 2018 (NNT) - Thailand's government has handed back title deeds to residents in the northeastern region, as part of its ongoing campaign of cracking down on land fraud.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan chaired the ceremony at Sisaket Wittayalai School to return 2,223 title deeds to residents in eight northeastern provinces. The deeds, which represent a combined area of 1,120 hectares worth almost three billion baht, were seized in cases of property fraud that occurred between September 14th and October 26th.

Acting Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpan, assured the public that police are continuing their crackdown on property fraud. Those who have been affected can file a complaint at their local assistance centers.

Apart from the detractors, and some comments are amusing, it is  enlightening to here that some people are getting their land back.  Yes they may have been silly to use it as security because they needed ready cash, but many if not most I suspect were not that well educated so were just conned into thinking it could repaid without understanding the impact that the prohibitive interests rates would have on their ability to repay.

I think you missed the point somewhat.   The land was not stolen.  Loan sharks were given the land as security against a loan that could never be repaid.  The loan sharks held on to the title deeds (Chanote).

As this was illegal money lending the sharks got nabbed, all the Chanotes were recovered and given back to the original owners. Yes they do deserve a pat on the back.

Fair enough

Some how the whole story gets undone when he is the front man; next he'll be fronting the Weight-Watchers Campaign.

Ha ha ha!

If he did, he would just be watching his weight ballooning. With the emphasis on 'watch' of course.

Just more political grandstanding and trumpet blowing in the lead up to the election. Such is their self-admiration and glorification of the junta they couldn't bring themselves to have just a quiet ceremony.

Even though they have done well for those caught in the loanshark trap they need not have had this ostentatious performance with the enormous, expensive (and almost indestructible) heavy duty vinyl (plastic) junta promo banner. I often wonder what they do with these single use costly banners. Are they recycled or kept as fond memories of their own presumed self-importance?

Looks like "Piglet" has got his brothel creepers on?

Don't see the connection between Immigration and Defense and property fraud, thought would have been a job for the RTP, maybe the RTP are being sidelined?

Why isn't Big Joke in the picture, haven't seen him for at least, Oh 24 hours.

C'mon, he needs some time off. Anyway, it wouldn't be appropriate publishing a photo of him doing some undercover work in a dodgy massage parlour.
