DLT put brakes on company's plans for meter-less taxis in Bangkok

The Department of Land Transport has told a company that planned to start a taxi service in the capital using cabs with no meter that it is a no go.

My Taxi wanted to rent to drivers on a monthly basis.

Deputy at the DLT Kamon Buranapong said taxis all need to be regulated as fares are set in stone and employing vehicles in the way wanted by My Taxi would mean unspecified usage that was not contained in the regulations.

They would need to be limos, rental vehicles or green plate commercial vehicles for that, reported Channel 3.

Hahaha yeah can see Somchai getting strapped to the hilt for a 5 series or E class .. And the lease company will be less than impressed when he takes it to the Wat to be all daubed up with lucky lucky symbols ..

Another way to publicly hint that perhaps a majority of taxi drivers don't even know how to turn "ON" their meters, so might as well make the cars meterless ?..... Amazing !!

Yes, 200-300 baht per stone's throw distance if you ask any taxi driver in the tourist district.

DLT will not condone meter-less taxis in Bangkok yet they do in Pattaya? Why the difference?

Even those scoobydoo tuktuk's in Phuket charge that for a distance of 300 meters.
