German drug suspect arrested in Bangkok

A German drug suspect who is wanted by Interpol and German officials has been arrested in Bangkok, acting Immigration Bureau chief Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakpal said on Friday.

Surachate said David Maas, 26, was arrested at the BTS Phra Khanong station on Monday.

Mass was found to have overstayed his visa for 257 days after it expired on February 14. He fled to Thailand on January 16 and entered the country via Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Surachate said Mass had arrest warrants issued by a German court for allegedly selling drugs worth Bt175 million via the so-called Dark Web network.

He was also suspected of taking part in a robbery of laptop computers and mobile phones in Germany in November, 2017.

Are the stopping foreigners at the station and asking for ID? Wondering how they caught him?

I think so, that's why they say all foreigners need to carry their passports.

Doubt that very much.

I would think they tracked him down somehow, the drug selling was on a pretty large scale.

That's going to be a fairly long stretch.

Guess he wasn't using the 'precautions' properly then for this line of work...or just got casual, careless and greedy.

The article does not say that he continued his dark web business from Thailand.

And even if, it requires some mistakes by he suspect to be caught on that.

So to me it's not quite clear how they got him.

More than once in the past it was German liaison officers who tracked down criminals in Thailand (using intelligence gathered in Germany) and then inform Thai police for the arrest.

Sounds like a fun duty.  Get orders to travel to Thailand to try and find some bad guys.  I suspect many officials would volunteer for such a duty!

You would be surprised if you knew how many foreign police officers are active in Thailand

Not really.  Some law agencies do have a brain and it doesn't take much smarts to consider going to a place where many bad guys are known to go.  Somewhat related to traveling officials, years ago when I was in the US Air Force I moved from Rhode Island to California. Now California has pretty strict laws on the books about bringing in fruits and wooden stuff or anything stored outside from other states (gypsy moths, bark beetles, whatever).  My small shipment of stuff arrived at Vandenberg AFB Lompoc CA.  A week later a guy from Los Angeles office called and asked if had any fruits, plants, or anything stored outside.  I said the only thing I had was a small charcoal grill/hibachi thing.  It has no moving parts, is just a bowl with a grill.  He said he had to come and check it out.  I said really?  So the next day he shows up, looks at the grill, does not even pick it up and says "OK".  A pure boondoggle and he took a 3 hour drive each way and no doubt just killed the day out of the office, driving up and down the coast.

He's lucky it's Germany, and not Thailand or the US ... he'll see the light of day at sometime.

Looks like an idiot on that picture.  I didn't expect less.

He has that look on his face 'I'll pretend this isn't happening and maybe it will all go away'.

Then remember that cell phones are connected to our passports.........

THAT OFFERS ANOTHER MEANS OF TRACKING US........

The German Federal Police has officers stationed in the German Embassy - as most other countries do the same.

I’m sure he got pinched like everyone does. Somebody talked. If I was going to use my imagination, I’d say he probably had a disagreement with some “friends” or a jealous woman, they probably had no idea about the outstanding warrants but probably did know about the overstay. He/she probably ratted him to immigrantion who ran a quick check and quickly determined that this was a media opportunity. Easy sting to set up. Snitch all ready gave location, police can post a motorbike look out for ฿100 or their own. Fritz bumbles out to go do something and viola.  I’m doubtful Hans was trafficking here. Every since the Canadian guy had the “accident” in remand, the darkweb in the Kingdom is mostly local only. Even the Canadian wasn’t slinging he was doing much worse. He had the money. ☠️

This is purely my imagination and no facts at all. Despite what most think most agencies are filled with ineptitude and apathy, and almost always depend on informants to give them something they can use for gain. Given the current juntas penchant for overstayers, I bet that’s what got him.

Just another lowlife scumbag

Can you have a nice time in jail

Probably min 10 years

Many western nation criminals are really dumb and stupid to think they can escape the law in a police state with check points and

x-ray-outlaw-farang bounty hunters,  all over !!
