Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday urged the public to visit the annual Red Cross fair next Friday and donate for the charity activities of the Thai Red Cross Society.

Prayut said the government would make it convenient for people to visit the fair at Lumpini Park from November 23 to December. The fair will be held from 10.30am to 10pm.

“I would like people to provide moral support to the staff of Red Cross by visiting the fair and donating to the activities of the Red Cross,” Prayut said.

He was speaking after Public Relations Department director-general Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd led Chanprapha Witchitcholchai, the deputy director of the fund-raising division of the Thai Red Cross Society, and children of Red Cross staff to meet the prime minister at Government House to promote the annual fair.

With the huge number of highway accidents ''we need your blood''...in other words ''we cant stop the road carnage'' ,but ''mabey we can ease the bleeding''.

Across the street from an HIV treatment center is probably not a good place to take blood donations.

I love it when the unusually rich tell others to donate. But then I guess they didn't become unusually rich due to their generosity.

Somebody must have read the news to him:

18 students, driver injured in Lampang accident

One killed, 7 injured in Trang pub shooting

And donate at his party's booth ?

In our own countries a "Red Cross fair" might well mean a blood drive but won't be the case here.  The Red Cross rules in Thailand make it difficult for older individuals to give blood no matter how much they may want to.

Does this guy even have a clue as to how irrelevant he is, and past the get out of town date he represents?

Talk about out of touch. Does anyone listen anymore?

I was 16 years old working at my first job in a gas station. I told my boss, "Why is it that the Hells Angels come here with 15 bikers every weekend, and one guy pays for everyone gives us a generous tip for doing nothing. But the limo drivers and rich people come in and are so stingy, never tip, and complain about everything and leave angry?". He said, "That's why the rich have money."

There are a few posts in here assuming the donation is related to blood. I have been the red cross fair a few times and there are stalls and food, basically a big market. Have I missed something particular about it this year being for blood donations?

Why would  a plea  for donations to the Red Cross be the subject of cynicism and snide comments? Do none of you not support the Red Cross in your own countries? I know in the USA the Red Cross responders are usually right there on the scene with first responders....

Regardless, Im going to the fair, just because I never been to a fair in Thailand. Ill donate $1
