This is Thai culture in a nutshell. In my opinion, corruption is endemic in Thailand. There are no exceptions, if you are wealthy or have progressed in your chosen profession, then you have been corrupt. As sure as night follows day. Do not confuse whom you happen to happen to feel attracted to for whatever reason (which is not objective) with whom is honest (which is).

I've met hundreds of Thais, perhaps thousands over the years. If any of them were or are honest, they did a good job of hiding it. Corruption can be small or large, but in my opinion, all Thais are corrupt in one way or another, it's a cultural thing, the way they've been brought up. Grengjai. They're not uniquely dishonest in the world, but they belong to a small and shrinking club of dishonest populations. Lots of reasons and I don't propose to list them, it is what it is. 2

anterian
“There is no need for the university council’s presidents and members to be worried about asset declarations if they have nothing to hide,” ah now there's the rub, as Shakespeare's Hamlet said. chama
Prawn needs to be put in the oversight position. His watch fund has been dwindling and the envelopes from these guys, who are receiving their own envelopes, would sure help him out. And the watch industry would benefit as well! zzaa09
The nature and tradition of the Thai ruling classes. Why bother going through the usual rhetorical motions? Gandtee
Certainly, government officers should have their wealth examined after serving the country, and maybe during their service if shady dealings are suspected. This should also apply to members of the armed forces. But who would be the investigators? That's the problem.

I would love not to, but my experince tells me that the ammart are (generally) nasty, and the phrai (generally) aspire to be just like them. There are no significant cultural differences amongst the population. Some have power to be nasty, others are hoping to get it
