chiangrai
I have to go to Savanakhet again for a visa run. I have been there before but still need some advice. This time I'm going to fly to Nakhon Phanom and stay the night. I will arrive at the airport at about 8pm and will want to go to to Muktahan or the Friendship bridge the next morning on my way to Savanakhet So I will need a taxi to a cheap hotel and presumably a taxi to the bus station in the morning. If any one could recommend a cheap hotel, near or on the way to the bus station and how much a taxi or tuk-tuk will cost to get there. Then what is the best way to go to Laos in the morning. Also does anybody know what is needed for the One year, multiple entry visa on the grounds of marriage in Savanakhet.
BritManToo
I always flew to Khon Kaen, airport bus to Bus station 3 (45mins + 20bht), Mad Van to Mukdahan (3hrs + 240bht), then border bus to Savannakhet (1hr + 50bht). Not sure why you would fly to Nakhon Phanom. You need, original and signed copy of Thai marriage cert., signed copy of her ID and house book, your passport and signed copy of photo page. $35 for the border VISA + small photo (download the form and fill before you go) 5,000bht for the Thai multi VISA + 2 photos (download the form and fill before you go) Edited November 11, 2018 by BritManToo
chiangrai
Nakon Phanom is slightly cheaper to fly to than Khon Kaen.I think it's slightly closer to Muktahan as well.I think...... That's with Nok Air,I must check Air Asia for prices.
BritTim
There is nothing wrong with connecting through Nakhon Phanom to get to Mukdahan. There are frequent minibuses from the bus station to Mukdahan, but they are fairly slow (about 2 1/2 hours) so you need to get an early minibus, about 6:00 to 6:30, to ensure reaching Savannakhet in time to apply for your visa. I believe you can ask to be let off near the bridge before arriving at Mukdahan which saves some time. It is too long since I was in Nakhon Phanom to suggest hotels. Just check out Booking.com/Agoda for somewhere walking distance to the bus station. As usual, expect taxis from the airport to overcharge you outrageously. chiangrai
Thanks,I will try Agoda, I will be arriving in Nakon Phanom in the evening and I will get a Song Teao or Taxi into which ever hotel I choose. I would love to know the price of the cheapest way into the town center. There will be lots of guys at the door of the airport hassling me and I will get ripped off if I don't know the score. Does anybody know how to get into NP from the airport. Are there Song Taeo's,tuk-tuk's or metered taxi's and what's the price.

I'd try the shuttle bus https://www.ihatetaxis.com/airport/KOP-Nakhon-Phanom-Airport/Nakhon-Phanom-Airport-shuttle Another page suggests the shuttle van costs 100bht. champken
When i did a similar trip, i jumped on one of the many waiting minibuses straight to Mukdahan and spent the night there in a cheap hotel rather than stay in Nakhon Phanom, then it was a simple 30b tuk tuk ride to the bus station in the morning. chiangrai
Yes I stayed in Mukdahan the last time I went. This time I'm arriving a little late and would like to see Nakhon Phanom. Those VIP mini buses are comfortable but cost about 400bht. I think the ordinary mini buses cost about 100bht. It's 5 kilometers into town from the airport so I can't get ripped off too much. Any one know a farang bar in NP.
