VIDEO: Spectacular drone light show at grand opening of ICON SIAM Bangkok

A no expense spared launch party signaled the official opening of Thailand’s largest shopping mall.

The launch party, held on Friday night, cost a reported $30 million and included a performance from American singer Alicia Keys, as well as a breathtaking drone show.

While spectacular, the event wasn’t without a few hiccups, with Keys’ performance dogged by technical issues which meant that much of the crowd were unable to hear her, Channel News Asia reported.

Still, the drone show, which consisted of 1500 drones was pretty impressive.

Yes brilliant

Just recently on one of the programs I watched, think it was the UK TV Program "Click" they had a similar display of drones as a fireworks display in Dubai.

Seems each drone keeps position in the display from GPS signal.

Amazing stuff.

i firmly believe that this is just another useless shopping mall that has no purpose. why does thailand need it? who can afford it? its the shining diamond on a pile of trash.

Seems like the general public agrees with you, nobody goes to shopping centers anymore, they are are way too crowded!

Amazing show!

a shi..y night with no taxi around and horrible traffic!

wonder how those guys got permission? well 30 million dollars opens every door looks like!!!

this Icon Siam has already received a bad reputation now from the residents of Bangkok as it will serve the rich but locals and other bangkok people will suffer due to high traffic! and opening day proved that. handful of rich guys on suits. opening for rich and poor people cannot go home due to traffic for hours.

f'k that s.it really!
