A friend of mine (really) has had 3 NON-B single entry visas from Vientiane from the same employer who can't seem to get a work permit (applicant has a BA). The 4th NON-B was recently refused in Vientiane. Flew back and now on 30 day exempt entry. Already has two land border crossings this year....tik tok tik tok 15 days to overstay.

 

Is there anywhere in the region (Savanakhet?) where the applicant has a "snowballs" chance of getting a single or double entry tourist visa? The idea being to ditch the current employer and find a new one that will sort out a new NON-B and work permit properly.

tell him to extend his current entry for 30 days at local immigration 1st

He could of applied for a single entry tourist visa when the did not accept his application for another non-b visa because he had already of gotten to many of them.

He could go back to Vientiane or go to Savannakhet for a single entry tourist visa. A 2 entry visa has not been available for 3 years now anywhere.

Worst-case, he may need to get a new passport from his Embassy before trying for another Non-B Visa - even with a new employer.  While a new passport doesn't change anything with regard to immigration's history (all in their database), it does work with "resetting the count" of visas at Thai consulates abroad.  Consulate staff often recommend getting a new passport, when they cannot give you another visa, after one has reached an arbitrary limit (which varies by consulate).

since 15th October Royal Thai Embassy has stopped giving Non B if applicants can not provide a previous Work permit. Your friend can still apply for a 30day extension based on his 30days entry stamp. 

No WP, no Non B. As far as I know a Non B is for working. To work you need a work permit.????

Well, technically he is abusing the system.  Sorry that his employer is not helping or can't get things sorted out properly.  But it sounds like he is working without the proper permit and therefore not on the proper visa.

A original WP3 application receipt or a work permit application approval  letter would also be accepted if they did not have a valid work permit. 

Not sure how he got the previous non-b visas unless he is teaching which does not require proof of a work permit application.

Errm, what about people who don't survive the probationary period? With degrees and all, of course. Does this amount to "1 chance to work at a thai school per calendar year"?

 

Sometimes, teachers or schools are a bad fit. 

 

And yes, the incompetence encountered regarding VISA issues has been breathtaking. But hey, schools usually make their employees pay the price of these expensive trips to Thai embassies ???? 

 

Good advice regarding a new passport etc. And the friend should see the writing on the wall and head for greener pastures. Someone has been taking the yellow liquid, JMHO. (I was hired by a government school. They refused to bother with WPs. Later, they claimed that I was hired by the hour or some such nonsense. The result: maximum fine for overstay, because they failed to convert my old WP or to communicate this failure. ????????

He was teaching and they refused another visa. He told me the Embassy said he had had too many previous NON-B visa's from the same school. (three)

If you spread the info you need to be sure you understand that #1 is that they want original documents presented along with the copies when doing the application.

Savannakhet has been wanting to see original birth and marriage certificates for some time. I would advise anybody to prepared to show the original documents when doing an application.

Not sure if Savannakhet has the same policy as shown in #2 for non-ed visa applications.
