Scotch with free floaters

Featured Replies

I’ve noticed quite a few times that my poured Scotch (100 Pipers, for the price) has extras. Floaters, bottom resting residue, sometimes just kinda hanging there. I’ve flicked them out, gone deep and persistently ‘em, taking away some pleasure. White, light and dark brown. Hmmm.

Hit google and read that this is a common occurrence in non-cold filtered Scotch. My plan tonight is to filter the shots through a thin wire strainer. If that doesn’t work, it’ll be coffee filter time (apparently with some loss of taste).

How about that?

Although a 15 year-old Macallan or Smith's Glenlivet is more to my taste, one can avoid the debris and have very reasonable priced alternative by switching to Bell's which Big C have in stock, frequently on special offer. Online, the 700 cl bottle is available on wishbeer for 389 baht.

If the OP wants to persist with 100 Pipers, try some muslin cloth instead of a metal mesh strainer.

Thanks NanLaew, first it’s the sieve, then the cloth. Boy, I’d like Wiser’s Deluxe Whisky (but not the closely named cheap scotch). Where to get?

And thanks again - for the Wishbeer tip. Perfect for a Christmas gift to self, haha.
