BANGKOK, 19th November 2018 (NNT) - Different provinces have stepped up their security measures in preparation for the upcoming Loy Krathong festival.

In Ang Thong province, the administrative sector and Ang Thong Provincial Police have jointly launched anti-crime operations involving more than 300 officials and volunteers to ensure safety and security for the public.

In Lopburi province, more than 400 administrative and security officials as well as volunteers gathered at the Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram monument to take part in a crime sweep. The move is to assure residents and revelers of public safety throughout the annual festival.

Similar operations are also active in Phichit province. Relevant bodies are focusing their security and safety efforts on unfinished criminal cases, violence-prone areas, fireworks shops and entertainment venues.

Revellers are urged to use Krathong flower lanterns made of biodegradable materials. Each family is advised to use only one Krathong lantern to lessen the environmental impact on rivers and canals.

Yes, of course.

That's what it's usually about.

Need to keep our militaristic consciousness sharp.

Yeh . . . I guess that's what the public wanted to hear, just to confirm their faith that the NCPO is doing everything it possibly can to save the country's rivers and canals. And there are more BIG words on safety, security, crime-prevention and violence . . . at this festival. 'Festival of what?', you may well ask . . . festival of unarmed combat, gun-slinging and general debauchery? No, it's just a festival - Buddhism driven - to celebrate life on earth and by the launching of candle bedecked banana boats. Where, on Buddha's earth, does the need for all this security and crime-prevention arise? Too many people wanting to play follow my leader, perhaps, having got so used to suffering his antics and tough-guy talk on Friday night TV. Just a thought.

Where did you read the "nonsense"about saving us from terrorists .

Terrorism wasnt mentioned in this article

Ah yes the traditional violent festivities need a soldier with Chinese AK-47 copy in every corner.

If there's usually a crime wave during the festivals , its quite understandable that the Police will be out in force

Just looking to justify their existence. Like buddhist/christian/jewish monks. Revenue streams to perpetuate and stuff..
