November 23, 20187 yr Anybody using Ubuntu Touch on their phone? I have been looking to separate google and Apple from my electronic life. Thought I would ask if anyone is using Linux on a phone. I have not had a microsoft computer for over 18 months and LOVE IT!
November 23, 20187 yr Promoted HW seems pretty old: https://ubports.com/devices/promoted-devices You can get an android phone and burn in a custom ROM without installing Google's services if it's big brother G you're worried about. It'll be pretty plain if you're used to using the services.
November 23, 20187 yr Author Dr T, I am an Apple user for the security. I came over to Apple from Blackberry. The reason I am looking at UT is the privacy. From what I have been able to ascertain, privacy is built into the OS. Flashing a custom ROM still leaves the Android vulnerabilities, just without google tracking. Pure OS is bringing a Linux phone out in April that has some cool features. The modem has a kill switch and it is separate from the CPU and GPU. Privacy and no tracking are the hallmarks of their platform. Thought I would play around w UT before I drop $600 on a phone w a 3yr old processor technology and give up my Iphones.
November 23, 20187 yr You can go with other (Android) phones and try flashing Lineage. Try the XDA Forums to check compatibility first. Doesn't answer your question though. I though Ubuntu had given up on phone OS development but haven't really kept up.
November 24, 20187 yr Author Thanks Bum! I am not familiar with Lineage, but I have heard of them. Have you tried it? My main goal is to kick google and Apple out of the bed. As our society moves closer and closer to humanity becoming just a data point, I want out. ????

It's an entire new OS to replace Android, so that might interest you. I understand the interest in not allowing Google to make money out of you for free.
