Community Thailand and Qatar Sign Five-Year Football Development Agreement
Picture courtesy of Matichon. Thailand and Qatar have entered into a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at enhancing football development between the two nations. The agreement was signed by ‘Madame Pang’, Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand, and Jassim Rashid Al Buenain, President of the Qatar Football Association, at the QFA headquarters in Doha. Effective from 2025 to 2030, the MOU encompasses various collaborative initiatives, with a particular focus on youth development. Qatar’s Aspire Academy and training facilities will play a central role in nurturing Thai football talent. Notably, Thailand’s under-17 national team previously trained at Aspire Academy from 16 to 26 March 2025, including a friendly match against Qatar’s under-17 team, in preparation for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. Qatar is also set to host the FIFA U-17 World Cup from 2025 to 2029. The partnership extends to technical development, including the exchange of referees for domestic and international matches, sharing of coaching and legal experts, joint workshops, and friendly matches between the two countries. ‘Madame Pang’ was also invited to attend the closing ceremony of Qatar’s 18th School Olympic Games, alongside dignitaries such as Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, former IOC President Thomas Bach, and Minister of Education Lolwah Al Khater, in the presence of over a thousand students and parents. Crime Man Arrested with Loaded Firearm at Bangkok Shopping Centre

A 24-year-old former student of Uthenthawai Campus, Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok, was arrested on 22 May for carrying a loaded firearm inside a prominent shopping centre in central Bangkok. The arrest occurred at approximately 18:30, on the sixth-floor car park of the shopping complex. Police officers from Pathumwan Police Station were conducting routine patrols to prevent student altercations when they noticed the individual acting suspiciously. Upon approaching and identifying themselves, the officers conducted a search and discovered a homemade .380 calibre pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition in a red Adidas shoulder bag. The suspect, identified as Mr. Chakkrakrit, admitted ownership of the weapon at the time of arrest. He was taken into custody and charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as carrying a weapon in a public place without authorisation. He is currently being held at Pathumwan Police Station pending further legal proceedings. Police Major General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, emphasised the importance of vigilance in preventing potential violence, particularly in areas frequented by students. Report Corrections Dept Probes Alleged Beating of Inmate at Khao Bin Prison in Ratchaburi
Picture courtesy of Daily News The Department of Corrections is investigating an incident involving a prison officer allegedly assaulting an inmate with a baton at Khao Bin Central Prison in Ratchaburi. The department reported that the event occurred on 7th November 2024 when a brawl broke out between southern and central region inmates. On 23rd May, the Department of Corrections released a statement in response to a video shared by the Facebook page “Thanaikirapon Kaewkird,” which purportedly shows an inmate being assaulted by an officer. The department clarified that the reported incident already underwent initial review, with a committee formed to investigate further. It assured a fair and urgent examination, with the committee currently finalizing their report for senior management. Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) dictate that staff must first warn inmates and announce the use of force if they do not cease hostile actions. If necessary, officers may use reasonable force, including batons, to restore order. However, should an officer continue using force once the situation is stabilised, it could be deemed a violation of human rights, potentially leading to disciplinary and criminal repercussions. The Department of Corrections underscores its commitment to upholding human rights and pledges a just, unbiased investigation into the incident, ensuring fairness for all parties involved.
