Hi

I need to find a house for rent asap in the 10-15K month price range, adsl ready. This week, if possible.

Area - idealy, Plai Leam (but i have looked there, nothing available with adsl)

Alternativley - Bo Phut, Ban Rak, Choeng Mon, Ghost Road, or behind the ringroad from Tesco Lotus down to Chaweng Noi (Soi Monkey etc). Possible even as far north as Mae Nam.

Plai Leam, Ban Rak would be the ideal.

My circumstances have changed and i need somewhere asap.

Any suggestions welcomed

Far North? Go to the map and see.

What do you mean? I dont understand your post. I mean as far north of the general areas i mentioned and as far south as Chaweng Noi.

SKO, I would go to the places you would like to live and ask around, that is the best way, in Ban Bang Rak there is some houses next to the Italian Resturant, and you have to walk in land, no real road(not far from the road) GOOD LUCK. Or else Maenam is filled with houses for rent, again you should ask, just the Thai way.

Samui Cocunut - thanks. I will try that. To be honest i have not asked at Grandmas this time as for the last 3/4 years they have had a permanent bright yellow 'house for rent' sign up.... but on the three or four different occasions i have asked, they always tell me full. Despite the sign. Ill try one more time but if they say full this time and still have the sign up, i will never return!

Jens - thanks. The houses next to the Italian restraunt dont have a phone line, i have enquired there before. If we are thinking of the same place (little lane adjacent to the restraunt, on the opposite side to the blues bar or whatever it is called, run of three/four houses)

I have plenty of experience in Samui house hunting, and i know the best way is just to jump on the bike and drive around asking. I dont have the time though.... im mostly on the mainland at the moment untill i find a place. I only have a day or two on Samui per week right now and dont have the time to drive around. From expereince, i know that driving around looking for a place with ADSL on Samui takes days or weeks. Its not easy. I was hoping someone may know of a place available now..... again, with adsl or minimum a phone line.

some of the houses in Bangrak between Mermaid and Sabai Thani are able to pick up wireless adsl via the Ichiwawa network .... might be an alternative as you can pay by the minute or by the month ... the actual transmitting antenae is located near BBC and covers that whole area, but would depend on what obstructions might be in front of you... there are other areas near bophut traffic lights covered by a similarly large antenae, so take your laptop with you when house hunting (assuming you have a laptop of course).

Or depending on how long you want to stay there, it would be possible to get CAT to some and install it within a week or so.

Try the place on the bend near the airport, they do. The new gaff are nice.

I have a friend living there too, I think its 16,000 for two bedrooms, but have ADSL as well. Nice area, with communal pool etc. The number posted outside to call is 089 8135715

Good luck.

Yes, Grand Ma house is always full, but now they changed the sign from yellow to red. Same same....

How difficult is it to get ADSL installed in a place?

For me it was a nightmare.... the ordeal lasted about 7 weeks. Involving many many phone calls, visits to TT&T, people not turning up etc etc

Eventually I paid someone (not a TT&T technician) to come to my house to try and sort it out. He had to come 4 or 5 times and make numerous calls too before TT&T sorted it out.

Thing is, I fancy moving houses in a couple of months but dont want to put myself through that again :o

DCS, Hecky, Beached Wale, Justin.... Thank you. I am not on the island right now but a friend of mine is going on the hunt for me tommorow, checking these places out first.

The new place by the airport... is it; heading towards Big Buddah, just past the airport turn right into a dusty lane - complex of8/9 houses around a pool? If it is the same place, they have a phone line but no adsl.

It is a nightmare trying to get adsl on samui. On the mainland it is just a phone call and within a few days you are set. I tried once on Samui and it was a joke....at the time there was a proper little matrix involved depending on your phone line, area, supplier etc etc. Very hard indeed. Such a simple little thing such as going to TT&T at Tescos and showing them your phone number/address to see if you could get adsl would be several visits, forms filled in, Thai translaters called and plenty of misinformayion. And that was just to find out if you could get it. If the answer was yes, which could take weeks to find out, you then had the mission of applying for it, getting it installed..... Nightmares. Thats why i want a walk in place with adsl. I can honestly say hand on heart i would rather stay on the mainland full time than a full time move to Samui unless i can get a place with adsl ready.

The place near the airport is right in the curve. If you come from the airport towards BB, pass the dirt lane you are talking about and keep on driving straight.

The street then makes a left turn down. Right in that curve is the place I talk about.

Approx 30 houses, some brand new. There is a big wooden sign hanging over the entrance driveway....can't really miss it.
