What if stranded in Tachilek with Tachilek visa?

Featured Replies

I am considering to do a border run to Mae Sai / Tachilek.

What in case Thailand refuses re-entry? I'd then go back to Tachilek but with Tachilek and from there I cannot fly anywhere else?

If Thai immigration decide you would not be eligible for re-entry, they will not allow you to leave unless you have an actual Myanmar visa. If you cross with just a border pass, you have pretty much a guarantee of readmission. The only exception would be if you were caught trying to do something blatantly illegal (like trafficking drugs) and, even then, Thailand would probably admit you, prosecute, and deport you after your jail sentence was completed. (The alternative would be to hand you back to Myanmar for prosecution.)

EDIT: It might get complicated if you lose your passport crossing the bridge between Thailand and Myanmar, but I think even then something would be worked out on the Thai side.

They won’t. If they let you out for a ‘visa run’ they will have to let you back in.

They could only pass the buck to Myanmar if you had a valid visa. Letting you out of Thailand without a valid visa for Myanmar makes you Thailand’s problem.
