AOT gives green light to new Suvarnabhumi terminal

Following a few hiccups, the board of the AOT has now given the green light for the construction of the second passenger terminal at Suvarnabhumi international Airport. In past months there have been demands from leading architects and engineers for the project to be scrapped.

AOT managing director Nitinai Sirimatthakarn says that after the board’s approval of the project, the company will now hold meetings with stakeholders in the project, including business operators at the airport to discuss the project in details. One of the many issues is whether the new terminal should be a stand-alone structure or link with one of the existing concourses.

He said that result of the meeting with the stakeholders would be brought up for discussion with the consortium, DBALP-Nikenseke-EMSMHPM-MSE-ARJ, or the Duangrit group, which won the bid for the construction of the project.

I think you're in the wrong forum.  This isn't the POTY thread.

Now, a normal person would assume (correctly) that all that wood would be treated with the proper fire retardant chemicals.  But this is Thailand, where cutting corners to save a few million baht is simply normal business practice.  So the contractors will tell themselves that no fire could really break out here, and pocket the cost of the treatment of the wood in favor of a new Benz or BMW, or gold jewelry and new condo for their mia noi.

And then the unthinkable happens.  A fire breaks out and rages through all that untreated wood, destroying the terminal and costing hundreds of lives.

And, since this is Thailand, no one of importance will be held responsible.

AoT was waiting for reports and opinions from the International Civil Aviation Organization but no mention that has happened. ICAO is not a "stakeholder" or business operator. AoT plan was also criticized by the Architects Council of Thailand and the Council of Engineers who are also not stakeholders. https://thethaiger.com/news/bangkok/new-suvarnabhumi-airport-terminal-on-hold

So review with these organizations are being bypassed?

Shouldn't such meeting be held BEFORE approval to discuss the project in DETAIL?

Now the meeting becomes a self-justification.
