Sanook reported that Saen Suk police and a foundation rescue team went to a convenience store on Won Napha beach, Muang, Chonburi on Sunday morning after reports that a Korean man had been assaulted and robbed.

At the scene they found Young, 24, with bloodied cuts to his face, body and leg. He had been robbed of 5,000 baht while standing talking on the phone outside the store.

He was unable to converse in Thai.

He was taken to Burapha University Hospital.

Witnesses said that he closely resembled a well known Korean footballer who plays for a Thai professional team.

Further evidence emerged that two men on a motorcycle had assaulted Yong and a fist fight developed. They then stole his money and a 50,000 baht phone that he managed to snatch back in the melee though it was damaged.

Thai friends who arrived at the hospital to pick up the Korean said he was not a footballer and had been on holiday in Bang Saen for a week.

They said he did not want to press charges and would be going back to Bangkok with them.

As the friends left they repeated their denial that he was a footballer, reported Sanook.

Thaivisa notes that a man called Lee Won-young plays for Pattaya United.

After being implicated in a betting scandal in South Korea in 2011 he moved to Saudi Arabia to play.

He later moved back to South Korea after being exonerated in the scandal.

Have to be more and more and more careful in sin city. Sounds more and more like in the USA cities where you get a punch and your phone snatched.

Land of Smiles......
