Govt. to conserve HM the King’s films and still images

Government has prepared to conserve 6,000 rolls of 16 mm. motion picture film and still images belonged to His Majesty the King as national heritage.

Deputy Permanent Secretary of Office of the Prime Minister, Jadula Apichattabutra (จาดุร อภิชาตบุตร) revealed that the government had already requested HM the King’s permission to conserve the rolls of motion picture film and still images shot by HM the King since 1954. Each roll of the film is 40-minute long.

The government has assigned the Fine Arts Department to form a team, consisting of both Thai and foreign experts from the National Film Archive, to systematically file the films and still images in line with international standards.

According to Mr Jadula, the government has also planned to construct a new building to house the films and still images. It will be constructed in the area of the National Film Archive office, situated in Salaya District, Nakhon Pathom Province. The construction cost is estimated at 198 million baht.
