Hollywood actor Christian Bale was among the Brits to triumph at the Golden Globes last night, but fans were shocked at the moment he collected his award.

Bale, who won the best actor in a musical or comedy for his portrayal of the former vice-president Dick Cheney in Vice, took to the stage with many commenting on his British accent.

The 44-year-old actor was actually born in Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire but speaks with an English accent.

Bale, who is famous for his roles in films including American Psycho and The Dark Knight, said in an interview with GMTV in 2008 that there is a "great vintage of Welsh actors with Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins" but he is not a "true Taffy" as he grew up in England.

And there point is .? What's the issue .. many folk are born one place to be raised in another .. and within G B that's easily achieved as there are no restriction in movement amongst the 4 countries we are made up from .. So if someone born of Wales goes to live in England no one in the slightest gives a toss .. The only time any nationalism comes to the fore is during sporting events .. Particularly Rugby .. that the Welsh are quite good at ..

And Richard Burton was one of the great orators with a mellifluous baritone of a voice that was equally commanding and engaging on stage , on screen or narrating TV and Radio .. The stage adaptation of War of the Worlds being just one ( of many ) of his finest hours ..

Wait until the netizens get a hold of this story.

"Fans are shocked"

that's a start..., now get up and do something about this! :passifier:

Matthew Rhys from The Americans TV series is also a Welshy.

It is an astonishing thing to me, when I hear an actor put on an American accent, or many other accents for that matter, then hear their native accents. This requires quite a bit of skill. But, Bale is a masterful actor, and this should not come as a big surprise, really. He is a man of great talent, who completely disappears into his characters.

It seems to be a lot easier for a Brit to fake an American accent than for an American to fake a British accent. I'm not sure why that is.

American guy goes into a pub. He sees two chubby white women talking to each other. He walks up to them and says:

"Excuse me...are you two ladies from England?"

They look at him and say:

"Wales!"

He replies:

"Oh...Are you two whales from England?"

So this is the kid that played in the 1987 movie "Empire of the Sun" ?

I remember he had a strong British/Welsh accent then. The kid has grown up!

I wonder if he is related to Gareth Bale or if it's just a common Welsh surname ?

Many/most prob never heard him speak while NOT acting. The voice and accent control of his craft is superb.

Anyhoo...LOVE that he prob shocked a lot of Christians by mockingly thanking Satan instead of the other most popular, non-existent deity to get undeserved thanks! :clap2:
