As authorities continue to battle with the health-threatening air pollution in Bangkok, there is more bad news for city dwellers as they may have to live with it for the next 1-2 months.

Pollution Control Department director-general Pralong Damrongthai said today that the problem with PM2.5 dust particles in and around Bangkok would fluctuate from within standard level to beyond standard level for the next 1-2 months. However, he gave an assurance that the threat from bad air quality would be intermittent because of the remedial steps being taken by agencies concerned.

Workers of the City Hall and other agencies concerned have been stepping up road cleaning and water spraying operation while the Royal Rain-making and Agricultural Aviation Department will launch rain-making operations today until Saturday from its temporary base in the eastern province of Rayong.

OMG, Pollution in Bangkok and the authorities are upset.

I never hear them when we have that pollution in the north for such a long time.

I would think the rest of their lives is a more accurate timeframe!

Anything they've ever done in the past, in reality, has been pretty much useless... Big talk and fake/false solutions to real problems. So unless they suddenly change their game, I wouldn't expect anything different this year...

However he is right about the time frame. Based on past patterns, it's correct to assume more of the same for at least all of Jan and Feb. and possibly though lesser into March as well.

The only things likely to bring any real change would be un-seasonal levels of winds or rainfall.....  unless the government was to really get serious about banning agricultural burning, and not just talking about it.

Don't worry... They won't do anymore for BKK than they've done for CM....  All the same...

That should just about make the problem of the next government.

There's a marvellous irony here in that we ignore nature and suggest we are technically superior and then after we have ballsed it all up look to the winds and rain to remove our problems. That's about all they are suggesting, relying on the weather already upset by human actions.

Ahhh, of course, wind and rain will be a cure all.   Water quality samples and testing of lakes, reservoirs, rivers and popular beaches will be a testament, that air pollution is in good hands.  Trade in your family's styling HEPA masks, for sexy chemical or dry suits for good, clean family fun at the beach.  ????

It was the same last year. There were a few articles about it and that’s it. Not much fuss about it. But this year people actually started to take action, which is good. The sooner Thai people realize about the dangers of pollution the sooner we will se the results.

It could never happen in France because all the pollution stops on the blue line of the Vosges ;

remember with the radioactive cloud coming from Chernobyl :crazy:

What is worse?

Bangkokians may have to live with current junta for 1-2 years. But generals are not educated to deal with preventable pollution, are they?
