Adopting step grand daughter

Featured Replies

Hi, i am a singaporean and my wife is a thai national. My wife's daughter, who has a child (meaning this child is my wife's grand-daughter and my step grand-daughter) recently seperated from her boyfriend, the child's father. My wife really wants to adopt the child (that is the only way we can formally apply long term visa for the child as adopted parents in brunei where i am working as an expat there as grand parents are not considered first degree relatives) and my step daughter is more than willing to give up complete rights to the child to us as she is having problem raising the child both financially and physically.

However, both my wife and i do not reside in thailand even thou my wife is a thai national. I read about how complicated and costly the adoption is for overseas adoption but could not find any info  similar to my case...i could not afford the hefty estimated adoption cost for overseas adoption, could not get the child long term visa under my sponsorship during the adoption process as i am not a citizen or perm resident of brunei and could not afford too much time spent on adoption procedures due to my work nature. Is there any advices on how to get the process done within a span of 2-4weeks to legally adopt the child under a relative(my wife) adopting scheme who married a foreigner and not residing in thailand without spending a hefty sum of money and not going thru the overseas adoption program which we will face problem with getting a long term visa for the child during the adoption process?

Better visit this site, (I attached a print screen ) they have good information about adoptions but if you need to contact them directly better do it by phone and your wife to call and speak Thai or try sending email in Thai as well and good luck

getting it properly formalised has of course many advantages...

the one in my mind;

is that when it becomes time to take the little one out of the country,

there may have been complications from immigration,

in letting the child leave,

on a one way ticket!

- for to do so requires the (all) parents' permissions

What you are asking is impossible. No formally registered adoption takes 2-4 weeks. The process may be quicker as it is between family members, but it could still take months.

family members or not it's same, same... takes around 2 years to fully complete the process
