Oscars 2019: James Bulger's mother 'disgusted' at nomination for film about son's killing

The mother of murdered toddler James Bulger has said she is "disgusted" after a documentary about her son's death was nominated for an Oscar.

 

Irish filmmaker Vincent Lambe's short film Detainment is based on transcripts of police interviews with the toddler's killers Jon Venables and Robert Thompson. 

 

The two-year-old was killed by the pair, both aged 10, after they snatched him from a shopping centre in Bootle, Merseyside, in February 1993.

 

Denise Fergus said she was "angry and upset" as the film earned a nomination for an Academy Award on Tuesday.

Understandable that she should be disgusted that someone is making money from one of the most vile murders committed in U.K. Has my greatest sympathy.
