snoop1130
PM and his four ministers urged to clarify their political stances now Royal Decree issued By The Nation File photo : Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong (2nd from L), Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana, Science and Technology Minister Suvit Maesincee and Prime Minister’s Office Minister Kobsak Pootrakool. Thai Raksa Chart Party leader on Wednesday called for the prime minister to clarify if he will be running in the upcoming elections now that the Royal Decree has been issued. Preechapol Pongpanich also called for four ministers, who also hold executive positions in a political party, to get into the spirit of things and announce their political decision. “It is time for the prime minister and his four ministers to inform the public about their political ambitions. The PM should clarify whether he is going to compete in the elections,” Preechapol said. Now that the decree has been issued, the Election Commission (EC) has to hold an election within 60 days. Preechapol said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his four ministers should not need advice on their next step and if they take a clear stance, then the EC will be able to organise a transparent and fair national poll. The four ministers in question are Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana, Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong, Science and Technology Minister Suvit Maesincee and Prime Minister’s Office Minister Kobsak Pootrakool. All four are part of Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak’s economic team and play a key part in the Palang Pracharat Party. The party plans to nominate General Prayut as its prime ministerial candidate in the next general election. The ministers had earlier rejected criticism that they have an advantage over other competitors and implied they might consider quitting their government positions once the Royal Decree is issued. Eric Loh
Prayut did said that he was tired and want to spend more time with his grandchildren. Maybe he will keep to that promise.

Maybe he will keep his promise (though he did not say he would leave politics) maybe not. I can hope he keeps it, would be nice if the others did too. Would certainly clean up Thai politics. yellowboat
The holey than thou and dignified savor of Thai people wishes to be asked by the winners resume his position as head hoo ha. He is above the debates and being scrutinized by mere mortals. He is, after all, a hi so. This man is making his legacy more laughable by the day. There is a big difference between 'elite' and 'hi-so'. He is not hi-so.

Or to put a positive spin on it - he has 'entertainment value', but not in monetary terms.
chama
No way Prayut will allow himself to be nailed down until the last possible minute. One should assume he is running and is waiting for a party he feels is most likely to win (even if they currently appear to have vastly different ideals) to invite him to represent them. He is probably applying pressure now behind the scenes. People could be disappearing and lucrative offers being made for all we know. If that party won't fold and invite him he'll declare for the party that has already reached out to him.
