Hi.

I have a three-year-old daughter to my Thai girlfriend.

I tend to come to Thailand for around four to five visits over the year usually for 3 to 6 weeks at a time, and I’ve been doing this up to date using a mixture of mainly tourist exempt stamps but sometimes single entry tourist visas. I’m now aware that this is becoming a riskier option and certainly on a couple of visits I’ve had furrowed eyebrows and a couple of questions from the officer at the desk, although nothing more than that.

The best option available to me as I understand it, thanks to ThaiVisa, is a single entry non-O Visa based on having a Thai child, and according to most of the posts I’ve read, the two places to go are Savannahketh or Vientiane.

I’m wondering
1. if I can get an unlimited number of these visas in a year , or is it becoming a problem in the same way that tourist visas are becoming a problem, when you have too many of those stamps in your passport?

2. Can I apply for this non-O Visa at other cities as well, such as Penang or Yangon or Phnom Penh  or whatever  other  city is in the region, or is there no record of people doing these types of applications where Thai consulates and embassies are? Yangon would be great for me as would Phnom Penh.

3. One of these non-O Visas is valid for three months and can be extended to 5. Therefore can I buy a multi  re-entry permit  at, for example, one of the Bangkok airports, to enable me to come and go into Thailand on that single Visa as many times as I want over the five month period?

4.  If financial statements need to be shown , as I’m not resident in Thailand, I assume that they accept funds from an offshore bank accounts such as my UK ones. Funds are not an issue for me, but showing funds in a Thai bank account is difficult because I don’t earn money there.

we are not yet married and do not currently have plans to be, I am a UK citizen. As I’m not yet the legal guardian of my daughter here in Thailand,  I can’t therefore get any form of multi entry year Visa Until I’ve been through the legalisation process.

Thanks again for the help.

2. It is easy to get a single entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai in Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos with no financial proof. Many people have gotten them back to back after getting the 60 day extension at immigration.

In Penang you would have to show 200k baht in a bank (it does not have to be in a Thai bank).

It is also possible to get a multiple entry non-o visa there without being the legal father of your child but need to show 400k baht in the bank. You may only get a a single entry visa the for the first application and the a multiple entry for the next application.

Not sure about Yangon or Phnom Penh since there have not been reports about getting one there.

3. You could extend the 90 day entry for 60 days and the get a re-entry permit to keep it valid. You would need one for the 90 day entry and another one after you apply for the extension near the end of the 90 days.

4. See 2 about Penang.

Thanks a lot.

So documents might be as follows for single entry non b with Thai child...

- Original Thai copy of child birth certificate (or is copy possible?) with my name

- UK bank statement (can show equivalent of more than 200kthb no problems)

- Child entry on tabian baan (copy)

- My passport with 6 months left and at least one page

- Passport photos

 - Application form

Do I need a letter from Thai girlfriend

Do I need a letter from my employer

Anything else I'm missing?

I'll give Yangon a try and just have to go with tourist visa if they say no this time I suppose.

Finally for rentry permit do I just apply as I leave Thailand, whilst at the airport, or does it need to be done on arriving in Thailand at first.

Many thanks again

You will be applying for single entry non-o visa not a non-b visa.

Best to always have the original birth certificate with you incase you are asked to show it. A copy of it attached to the application is needed.

Yes for the bank statement but not needed at at all locations (only in Penang as far as I know).

Copy of your child's tambien ban registry. Page one and the page they are shown on.

No letter needed from your girlfriend but a signed copy of her ID card might be good to have.

No letter from your employer is needed.

From my own experience:
I am getting a Non-O 1 year multiple entry based on Thai child in Yangon for years now but:
. I am working in Yangon (not sure if it help)
. I am officially divorce and have the full custody of my son (from the divorce document from the amphur) but they never asked about it.
. Apart from working in Myanmar, I live in Thailand with my son (mean same house and I am taking care with my girlfriend)

The first time ( about 6 years ago), I called first the Embassy and asked them if they were issuing this type of visa. They confirmed and they issue this visa with only a copy of the Thai birth certificate. They mentioned about a single 90 days only but once I told them that I used to have a multiple 1 year from another embassy (Moscow), they said in this case, they will issue a multiple entry. Then I got a multiple entry with only a copy of the Thai birth certificate.
Same happened for the consecutive next years.

I think about 2 years ago, they asked to provide copy of bank statements without specifying to be from Thailand and any minimum balance requirements (i provided copy of Thai bank book as I have bank account in Thailand).

Last November 2018, when I applied again, they confirmed that no financial requirements but they asked to provide:
Copy of bank book
Copy of school certificate (evidence that my son is studying in Thailand).

I would suggest if you try in Yangon:
- Prepare a letter at the attention of the consul explaining your situation (I am working abroad but as my kid is in Thailand, I would like to apply for a visa Non O...to facilitate my regular visits...). You attach this letter with the application form. That's what I am doing
- a copy of the Thai birth certificate is enough but to be on the safe side, I would bring the original in case. That's what I am doing
- any documents/ certificates showing that your kid really in Thailand ( school/ kindergarden...whatever)
- any recent bank statements
- passport minimum 6 months validity
- 2 passport photos

Payment is Yangon is USD only. 200 USD for the 1 year multiple. For the 90 days, I am not sure because I never applied for it.
You submit in the morning between 09h00 till 11h30. You get back thr passport the next day between 13h30 and 15h00.
The Embassy is not busy. They are very friendly.

Thanks a lot for this great advice. I'll get the school documents for sure.

Did you present your letter in English or Thai?

Just a simple letter in English explaining my situation (working as freelance abroad but having my kid in Thailand, i would appreciate if you can grant me a Non O to facilitate my stay in Thailand to visit my child...I am attaching the following documents...).
Fill the application form (they is a box to tick for Non O), give this application together with the birth certificate and letter.
My advise: keep other documents ( bank statements, school letter...) and wait they ask for it.

Marry the GF, it will make things much easier for your child in the future. If you don't reust your gf, make sure you have a prenuptial agreement.
