Democrat to approve candidates and Abhisit as PM candidate on Monday

By The Nation

The Democrat Party will hold a meeting of its executive board on Monday to approve its list of candidates and approve its only candidate for prime minister, the party spokesman said on Saturday.

Democrat spokesman Thana Chirawinij said the board would hold a meeting at 3pm to approve the list of 350 constituency candidates and 150 party-list candidates.

The board will also approve a plan to nominate party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva as the only Democrat candidate for prime minister, the spokesman added.

He said the party will hold a session at the Miracle Grand Hotel on February 1 to inform the 500 candidates of the election rules.

Officials from the Office of the Election Commission will brief the candidates on the law, the spokesman added.

Yes indeed, Ossy. I mean, how stupid, how utterly thick can they be - to choose THIS man yet again as PM candidate??! What total morons. He has about as much appeal, charisma, credibility and pulling power nowadays as a bloated, rancid, 9-month-old soufflé!

Still, some strange individuals have strange tastes and will slaver all over him!!

One thing you have to give the the Thai politicians/ military coup leaders credit for is they will continue to do the same thing over and over, totally fail each time but still expect that this time it will succeed.

In Thailand this probably falls under Thainess but in the West is considered stupidity or just plain comedy.

He is gutless and such a wasted education!

Yes, all that expensive Oxford education (and the guy studied PPE, for God's sake - Politics, Philosophy and Economics) and he cannot even get his head round the immensely difficult concept that you DO NOT block an election; you DO NOT prevent the sovereignty holders of the nation (the Thai people) from exercising their constitutionally granted right to express their political opinion.

Yet this guy - Mr. bloated Oxford Clever Clogs - could not even understand that much of political philosophy - and supported the events which led to the coup and what The Nation newspaper (quoted by Thaivisa itself) recently called 'a dictatorship since 2014'.

Well, of all the things to say about a Geordie. ????????

I sincerely hope they do not choose Abhisit. He already showed us how incompetent he was, when he got his shot. Can the people who are making the selections really be this dense? If so, there may not be much hope for Thailand after all.

This would appear to imply some surprising pro-democratness on your part, 007. After your recent savaging of Prayuth, I'd have thought you'd celebrate the Democrats pissing on their chips . . . or don't you see them as an aid to Prayuth's remaining as PM?

Sorry. Maybe you are speaking over my head, or I just do not get your line of reasoning. I despise Prayuth, as do the vast majority of Thais, and most ex-pats. So, why would that make me not want the dems to pick a good candidate? I want to see Thailand move forward and improve. Abhisit is not the answer. Neither is Prayuth, as he has demonstrated his gross negligence, and astonishing degree of incompetence already. So, I guess my question is, who is out there that can lead this nation back to sanity?

Speak over your head . . . never, but I'd have thought - especially from their pre-Yingluck track record and their sharing the same shade of yellow as Prayuth - that The Dems would be the last party you'd want to take up the reins of trying to sort out this sorry mess of a country . . . hence my closing Q, above.
