Thai dishonesty: Chinese woman latest victim of real estate rip-off agent

A Chinese woman who rented a property is the latest victim of an unscrupulous Thai real estate agent.

Manager reported that Ms. Tian Xin, 31, went to the Crime Suppression Division tech branch in Bang Rak to say that an agent called Pawinee Khrainumsingh or "Toei" aged 31 had conned her.

First off the agent charged the Chinese woman 2 years rent up front. But when Ms Xin had a disagreement with the landlord and decided to break the contract she was told by the landlord that they had not received all the money and thus could not repay her.

Then the agent sent via the Line application what she said was an official communication from immigration police demanding a 110,000 baht fine for "staying in Thailand". Not being able to read Thai and not wanting to get in trouble with immigration she paid up.

A Thai friend to whom she later showed the "Garuda" stamped Line communication said it was not from immigration at all. It was just a notification from the Department of Provincial Administration reminding the landlord to report a foreigner staying at their property.

It was not a request to pay a fine at all.

This prompted Ms Xin to go to the tourist police who along with Ms. Xin an interpreter went to the Bang Rak CSD.

The Bang Rak CSD are also handling a case about the same dishonest agent who conned another Chinese. A man called Liu Chunhu, 40 said Pawinee had ripped him off to the tune of 960,000 baht over a rental deal.

Investigations continue.

Try working in China or Korea and rent an apartment yourself.

Normal practice for landlords to ask for one or two years upfront.

I knew a couple of Oz guys who had to do it and when their contracts finished early they had two hopes of getting any cash back, no hope and Bob Hope. So perhaps she thought it was normal to pay two years upfront.

Read what I said.

She, being Chinese, might have considered paying two years upfront normal.

Re' paying up front. Years ago I stayed in a company house in the Jomtien area. The two next door neighbours, one American and one German were renting two houses owned by the same Thai guy. They had been staying long term and had been paying up front, a year at a time without problems and in fact were getting 10% discount on the rent for doing so. The landlord was quite happy to get two payments at the same time each year.

Just a misunderstanding of what's yours is mine and can easily be sorted with the appropriate wai I love your money????

Lets hope that the police put this agent in jail where he or she belongs. Well done to the victim for reporting the crimes.

The mainland Chinese are supposed to be experienced in scams.

I got scammed a few times when I was new in China, it was for small amounts only.

When I call someone stupid, I am usually looking in the mirror. Unwise perhaps, however, "Stupid assigning" is beyond my qualifications.
