Visa run vs 60 day tourist - Any help greatly appreciated

Featured Replies

So, just a quicky, hopefully.

Been out of LOS for 18 months, got back in December, as a Brit, got 30 days on arrival. Extended another 30, which is up on Sunday. Preference would be a border run and do the same 30+30 is it's the first time in a while - Is Poi-Pet an option as I haven't done a border run since 2017? Other border run options and any recent details and dealings would be great!

Otherwise I'll go to Vientiene I guess... I saw you need to book an appointment in advance now for a 60 day tourist visa, how far ahead is the queue? Can you book a day in advance at them moment does anyone know? Are Tourist Visas there still 1,000 baht?

Any expected cost details would be great too... if it's Vientiane I'll go by train... Poi-pet would drive myself and other borders maybe drive or a van service if there is one. Wasn't there a daily van from Tesco Onnut back in the day? Does that still exist anyone? Details?

All info is much appreciated, thanks in advance you lot.

Aranyapathet/Poipet is not a good border run destination.

They gave me a hard time with a non-o ....... after I had been on holiday in Siam Reap for a week, why do you spend so much time in Thailand? etc.

Bus from Mochit to the border is around 200bht, leaves every hour, and vans.

Avoid Poipet like the plague.

If you are planning to spend significant time in Thailand going forward, I would suggest you husband your visa exempt entries by land. You are only allowed two per calendar year, and should retain them for emergencies. If you, nevertheless, decide you want to do a border bounce,

  • from Bangkok, you can go to Ban Phu Nam Ron, Kanchanaburi;
  • from Pattaya, Ban Pakard is usually suggested

The Vientiane appointment site has only been online for about 24 hours. It is premature to give any opinions on whether appointments will be available at short notice.

Poipet is a definite no-no.

Maybe this thread from June 2018 is sufficient:

(just ignore the usual bickering)
