I am currently ordained as a Buddhist monk and planned to stay in the robes for a few years. For monks there is a 1 year visa, an Ed visa (religious studies), which I will have to cancell when I disrobe.

 

Can I then just ask for a 1 month tourist visa or is there any rule against this?

You can get another visa. But you’ll need to leave the country and apply at a nearby Thai embassy/consulate. Or exit/re-enter for s 30 day visa exempt entry.
