webfact
Hakeem Case Different From Rahaf, ‘Big Joke’ Says By Asaree Thaitrakulpanich, Staff Reporter Bahraini Hakeem al-Araibi, center, leaves the criminal court in Bangkok, Thailand, Bangkok, Thailand, Monday, Feb. 4, 2019. The soccer player who has refugee status in Australia told a Thai court Monday that he refuses to be voluntarily extradited to Bahrain, which has asked for his return to serve a prison sentence for a crime he denies committing. Photo: Wason Wanichakorn / AP BANGKOK — Hakeem AlAraibi and Rahaf Alqunun are two different cases, the head of Thai immigration said Monday as pressure mounts for Thailand to free the former rather than extradite him to Bahrain. Lt. Gen. Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn said the recent case of the young Saudi woman briefly held then allowed to depart a refugee cannot be compared to that of refugee athlete AlAraibi because the latter was the subject of an arrest warrant justifying his detention. You wanted to send the Saudi girl home until she became massive on social media so you didn't dare. You also wanted to send this guy back but can't now 'cos there is so much spotlight on you. You've given yourself 60 days to dig yourself out of your silly little hole. Prediction? He ain't going back to Bahrain, but he will have to wait in his prison cell for longer until all sides can find a way to release him and save Thailand face - sorry, save the Thai government face. I see many Thais on twitter who are embarrassed by this and are advocating for his release. 6

Popular Post Cadbury
The "loss of face" factor seems to be in play in this case; particularly as it relates to Big Joke and his boss General Prawit. The Red Notice was withdrawn so that should be the end of it. But eating humble pie is an unappetizing option for those two big heads. They have to play out the game and let the court make the decision to release him. 1

natway09
Be very careful extraditing someone home to face charges that may be trumped up (gotta stop using that word) Send him back to Oz & let them extradite him 1
Oziex1
The latest two stories on this on TV.com and the Thais are backpedaling. Oh yes don't we know it, the excuses are coming now.
mickymouse1
The red alert is usually issued for serious crimes/ criminals not a simple vandalism case.Big Joke can not get "the notorious boy" who is playing freely around the world having committed a serious crime in Thailand. Disgraceful excuse!!!
