Hi Everyone

Can anyone advise on how much it will cost for the UK Embassy to provide this certificate of residence? I have a Non B and here in Bangers for 1 year, I have been asked by a Law firm in Bangkok to show this when I want to open a bank account here using their services ( Opening a bank account should be simple I know ) and also I need this to apply for a international driving licence, apparently. Your kind advice would be much appreciated! I could of course keep my money in the UK account as it seems thai banks dont want to bother with my farang money unless I am working and have permit, I could of course risk taking my motorbike out on the streets without the intl license, but I would like to be ready for all circumstances, if you catch my drift. Thanks again in advance!

IIRC it's an odd amount just under 1500 Baht !!

Make sure you ask for extra copies as most of the places that want one, keep it

UK EMbassy will charge over 1.800 baht per certificate

I got my certificates from Immigration free of charge and they indicate the purpose on each certificate making it real simpleto use for driving license or banking

Wow, quite expensive, German embassy Baht 950, issued on the spot, Japanese Baht 780 issued within 24 hours.

I have been reading a very thorough and interesting book by Donny Gluckstein, A People's History of the Second World War: Resistance versus Empire. Of course, the author quotes both Zinn and Terkel! The thesis is that two parallel wars were taking place. The official military war of Allies against Axis that was essentially a imperialist war from both sides. The second war was that waged by the underground people's resistance. Fascinating stuff. "The USA was equally cynical in its approach to peace. As one leading politician put it: ‘As things are now going, the peace we will make, the peace we seem to be making, will be a peace of oil, a peace of gold, a peace of shipping ... without moral purpose ... .’ Devoid of moral purpose, maybe, but Hull, Roosevelt’s Secretary of State, explained the USA would lead ‘a new system of international relationships ... primarily for reasons of pure national self-interest." I'd like to update myself on the stamps put by immigration into the passport of a Permanent Resident. Does a Permanent Resident nowadays still need to get a stamp (endorsement, non-quota immigrant visa, re-entry permit or whatever it may be labelled nowadays) in his passport before leaving Thailand so as not to forfeit his permanent residence status? If so, what does this stamp look like? What is the TM form number to apply for it? What is the fee for it? What does the arrival stamp being given upon arrival in Thailand with such an entry permit look like?
