Visa renewal

Featured Replies

I need to return home urgently, I won’t return until August, my retirement visa expires in April. Can I I renew in my home country.

IF you have a VISA you must buy a new one. IF you in fact NOT having a VISA but an extension of stay, than it must be renewed here in Thailand at your local Immigration-office, if not you have to make the process from the start again.

If you are on an extension of your permission to stay based on retirement, and it is still a few days before you must leave, you could explain the situation to your local immigration office and see if they will allow you to renew your extension early. Otherwise, it will likely be best to apply for a new visa before returning to Thailand.

You apparently have an extension of stay based upon retirement issued by immigration issued by immigration not a visa issued by an embassy or consulate.

You could contact your local immigration office a about applying for the extension early. Some will do it if you show them you must leave the country.

If not you will have to start all over again by getting a new non-o visa if possible before returning.

The short answer is no - Immigration may agree to renew your extension early but if not you will need a new visa to begin the process of obtaining another extension.

In Bangkok you can apply for a 1 year extension 45 days before your visa expires.

Another option that may be available to you is to obtain a non immigrant O-A visa (long stay-retirement) visa in your home country before returning.  That provides a one year stay on entry.
